Choosing your Newborn Photographer can be difficult and over
whelming! It's a big decision, not only are you entrusting this person
with your brand new precious baby, but you're also going to be
looking at the final images for years to come!
Here is my list of the top 7 things to consider when choosing your
Every legitimate business should be licensed, period! Not only does
this ensure they're legally on the up-and-up, but in Maple Ridge
(and I'm sure many other jurisdictions) every licensed photographer
has to complete a criminal record check in order to be allowed to
work with children.
This is especially important when working with newborns when
safety should be the number one priority. Far more important than
"getting the shot" is making sure that your little one is comfortable and safe at all times! Make sure your photographer is knowledgeable and comfortable holding, soothing and posing your little one.
If you're looking for a fine art canvas, make sure they offer fine are canvases. If you're looking for digital images, make sure they offer a package that includes the digital images. Not every photographer offers the same types of products!
You can find photographers at all price points, from $25 up to thousands of dollars! Know what your budget is then find the best photographer you can that fits within that budget. Make sure you know what all the costs are. Does the session fee include any images, or do you have to buy the images separately? Do they offer a payment plan? Knowing what options are available before you sign the contract is key. Which brings me to number 5.
Contracts are in place to protect both parties and specifically outline each party's responsibilities. This way everyone know exactly what they need to do and what they can expect in return.
This may sound similar to number 5, however, not all studio policies are outlined in the contract. The contract is all the legal stuff, the policies outline the "rules". And finally...
This one's pretty straight forward. If you don't like their shooting or editing style you're not going to love looking at the finished products hanging on your wall day after day after day... forever! Make sure you love their style and that you're not going to look back in a few years and wonder "what was I thinking??"
No matter who you choose to work with, just make sure your little one is safe and that you get the experience you deserve!
